Introduction

Comforting South African milk porridge scented with cinnamon and cardamom, with buttery crumbs stirred in for body.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Combine milk, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and sugar in a medium pot. Heat slowly to just below boiling.
  2. Mix flour and salt; rub in butter until crumbly.
  3. Remove cinnamon stick and cardamom pods from the hot milk. Sprinkle crumb mixture into boiling milk, whisking. Simmer 8 minutes, whisking, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and serve immediately.
